1. The Schönbrunn Palace

 

The most visited tourist sight in Vienna is the Schönbrunn Palace and also thi is the most important cultural and historical monument in Austria. It was the summer home of the imperial family. The ground and the gardens are full of beautiful and colorful flowers. There is a zoo and a maze. At the end of the garden you can find the Gloriette which is the monument to Queen Maria Theresa. If you climb to the top you will see a breathtaking view of Schoenbrunn and Vienna.


2. Museum of Art History (Kunsthistorisches Museum)

 

If you want to see some art treasures which were collected by the imperial family, visit the Kunsthisorisches Museum. It contains works by Burgel, Raphael, Rubens, Rembrandt, Durer, Titian, Vermeer and others and also many ancient artifacts from Egypt, Greece and Rome. These were owned by the wealthy Hapsburgs.

 

 

3. Vienna State Opera

 

 

The Vienna Opera House is the home of first class opera performances and is also famous for the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. One night in the State Opera gives you the most impressive experience.


 

 

4. Butterfly house (Schmetterlinghaus)

 


 

This tropical butterfly house is situated in Vienna’s center and it is just 200 meters away from the Opera House. You will be amazed if you will see hundreds of free flying tropical butterflies in natural rain forest environment.

 

 

 

 

5. St. Stephen’s Cathedral (Stephansdom)

 

Originally it was built in the 12th century, and it was rebuilt in 1258 after a fire. This is one of the most important buildings in Vienna and this is the seat of the Archbishop. This cathedral is one of the symbols of Vienna and a place for important events in the nation’s history. If you climb the 343 steps you will reach the top of the south tower, as known as Steffl, and you will see the wonderful view or also you can go underground to take part of a guided tour of the catacombs.

 

6. Hofburg Palace

 

Explore the Hapsburg’s world from their Imperial Palace called Hofburg. For centuries the Hapsburgs ruled the vast Austro-Hungarian Empire, and Europe was influenced by their political marriages. Take a tour of the Imperial Apartments to get to know the “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous” by the Hapsburgs. If you want to see the crown jewels of the empire visit the Treasury.


7. Vienna´s Prater with Giant Ferris Wheel (Riesenrad)

 

The prater of Vienna includes many attractions such as the Giant Ferris Wheel- which is a landmark of Vienna, Ghost trains, arcades, fairy tale railways, and many other adventureous things. This park offers you more than 250 different attractions and cafés, restaurants and bars also.

 

 

8. Albertina museum & gallery

 

Albertina museum was founded by Duke Albrecht von Sachsen-Teschen in 1768. The museum was named after him. These days the museum represents more than 50,000 drawings, water colours, sketches like some 1,5 million sheets of printed artwork such as etchings. Dürer, Raphael, Rembrandt, Rubens, Bosch, Bruegel, Cezanne, Picasso, Michelangelo, Matisse, Klimt, da Vinci- the collection’s catalogue reads like the “who is who” in the history of art.

 

 

9. The Mariahilferstrasse

 

In the shops of Mariahilferstrasse you will find anything you need. This is the trendiest shopping area in Vienna, with its fashion, jewelry, accessories and many more shops. Between the city centre and Westbahnhof there are many department stores and shops.

 

 

 

10. The Naschmarkt Market

 

This is the largest and the most popular market in Vienna. The original market dates back to the 15th century. Here you can find exotic herbs, bakery, cheese, meats and seafoods, fresh vegetables and fruit. There are several restaurants nearby Naschmarkt serving international meals as well. The flea market is on every Saturday next to Naschmarkt.
